The annual fee for a medical cannabidiol card in Iowa is $100 unless the patient is eligible for a reduced fee. A reduced fee is available to persons with the following:

  • Copy of proof of Supplemental Security Income Payment
  • Copy of Social Security Disability Benefit notice
  • Copy of Hawk-I member card
  • Copy of Iowa Medicaid member card

The reduced application fee is $25.

Medical marijuana in Iowa refers to medical cannabidiol, which is any pharmaceutical-grade cannabinoid found in the plant Cannabis sativa L. or Cannabis indica or any other preparation of the plant delivered in a form approved by the medical cannabidiol board and the Board of Medicine and the Department of Public Health. The acceptable forms of medical cannabidiol in Iowa are:

  • Topical forms – gels, ointments, creams, lotions, and transdermal patches
  • Oral forms – tablets, capsules, liquids, tinctures, and sublingual forms
  • Vaporization
  • Nebulizable inhaled forms
  • Suppositories – rectal and vaginal
